Day 13 – July 29

13. Lucky for some… nah, I got nothing.

But the good news is the campaign is in full swing, so we don’t need to fill this space with as much background and filler.

One big piece of news today is that the Democrats have added a candidate to the list today, Greg Butler from Murrumbateman, bringing our awesome foursome to a quintet.

Goulburn Post election reporter Stephanie Anderson has a story in tomorrow’s Goulburn Post about Mr Butler, along with more profile information about the other candidates and some of their policies on Health.

The other big news of the day is mentioned in Alby Schultz’ press release.

Alby slammed the Country Rail Infrastructure Corp, for denying Ainsworth Engineering a lease on the Goulburn Railway Workshops. He highlighted that this has created even more uncertainty for staff who had been made redundant by the closure of UGL, and brings the blame for this decision home to what he refers to as a “smelly” decision by the “completely incompetent State Labor Government” (his quotes).

This is certain become a major issue for the Goulburn end of the electorate for the remainder of the election.

Robin Saville sent us a summary of yesterday’s activities which included door-knocking at Yass and a meeting with Yass Mayor Carmody and the Yass Council, and a TV interview with WIN TV.

Today, Robin produced a press release about the Building the Education Revolution, rejecting Alby’s claims of rorting and that school communities were unhappy with the outcome of their projects. He stated that principals and parent groups had overwhelmingly supported the program and that $111 million had been spent on Hume schools.

Robin’s activities today included went back to Tahmoor to meet with miners who are donating his campaign, then returned to meet with Simon Bennet, Regional Director of Anglicare for a tour their facilities.

So it was a busy day.

Two of the candidates now have websites for you to browse and find out a bit more about them.

They are as follows:

http://www.robinsav ille.alp.org.au/

http://www. albyschultz.com.au/

And while on matters multimedia, we have offered to each candidate to record a three minute video for each, which we will post online. Robin Saville took us up on the offer this afternoon.

We will post their videos when all of those willing to take part have recorded them, so stay tuned.

So the day in review.

You know, it’s getting boring, making the same speech about how we can only assess the information that candidates give us.

You can be certain that Alby and his campaign crew are very busy, but just not advising us. The same may be true for the other candidates.

So, knowing Robin may not have done more than the other candidates, but that he at least has been transparent with his activities, which presumably is something we expect from our representatives, the day is his once more.

Perhaps it’s time to discard with the “awarding of the day”, but we will continue to list what the candidates provide us with as best we can.

And then there were five.

13 down, 23 to go.

ITINERARY UPDATE --

Friday - Robin Saville will be in Cootamundra, Harden, Stockinbingal and Jugiong tomorrow.
