GOULBURN health professionals and Member for Goulburn Pru Goward have condemned the proposed axing of the Child Infant and Family Tertiary Service (CIFTS) in Goulburn.
Coordinator of Goulburn and District Children's Services Wendy Allen said she was "shocked" and "in disbelief" over the decision to axe the crucial children's service.
"We have to stand up for the children of rural regional areas," Ms Allen said.
"We were only advised by telephone last week that there is a proposal by the Greater Southern Area Health Service (GSAHS) to close the CIFTS team from June 30.
"This has come as a shock and has been greeted with disbelief, and on behalf of Goulburn and District Children's Services we wish to make known our strongest objection to this course of action," she said.
Ms Allen said CIFTS was available at no cost to parents on referral from a speech pathologist, paediatrician and early intervention services for children who need accurate diagnosis for disorders like Autism, Pervasive Development Disorder, ADHD, Fragile X, and Global Development Delay.
