IN 2009, BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc. held its most successful event to date, raising more than $60,000 in one night. Now, they are hoping to do it all again when they host the second Dancing with the Starz.
While this year’s line-up is yet to be finalised a number of high profile locals have already thrown their names into the mix including Mayor Geoff Kettle, Upper Lachlan Shire Council general manager John Bell, funeral director Belinda Crooks, St Saviour’s Canon Mark Cooper and songstress Tahlia Aubusson.
Nominations close on Friday and the committee say they are looking for a particular type of person. “(What we are looking for) are people that can get out there and do some fundraising and are keen to have some fun,” committee member Jody Divall said. Dancing with the Starz Two will be held at the Goulburn Soldiers Club on Saturday, October 13, and will follow a similar format to the hit Channel Seven TV Show.
It will see eight high profile locals paired up with professional dance instructors and taught how to move with style. This year’s event will include two performances, an open dress rehearsal and the actual performance.
Mrs Divall said the extra show had been added to help the performers become more comfortable before show time and to make it more accessible to a larger audience.
There will only be 300 tickets available for the main performance. It will have table seating and varying ticket prices. A seat at a floor side table will cost $100 and will include a seafood platter, a waiter and wine. A seat at the next best tables will set you back $80 and include a three course meal. There will also be $50 tables, whose occupants will enjoy some finger food.
The dress rehearsal, on the other hand, will have “theatre style seating” and tickets will only cost $20. Both shows will be emceed by Troy “Cookie” Cook, who was a big hit in 2009.
In the last three years, the committee has donated more than $100,000 worth of equipment to the Goulburn Base Hospital.
The fundraising target for this year’s Dancing with the Starz is $80,000. To nominate, contact Camilla Cartwright 4829 8502 or check out the event’s page on Facebook.
