Six people are lucky to be alive after a vehicle drove through the front window of the Déjà Vu hair salon in Auburn Street, Goulburn at 3pm today.
A blue Toyota Corolla is believed to have mistakenly accelerated forward while attempting to reverse and in so doing drove head on into the shop before coming to rest some three to four car lengths inside.
A passing female pedestrian told the Post she had to jump to avoid the car as it mounted the kerb with such force that it ploughed through the shop window narrowly missing the customers and staff.
A neighbouring business owner from Auburn Street said she heard the initial crash and ran out into the street, heard women screaming in terror and saw passers-by also screaming for help.
Goulburn’s emergency services were quick to respond with four ambulance, a police rescue truck, two fire brigade appliances, five police units and an Essential Energy emergency team on scene within minutes.
Speaking to the Post , Inspector Anthony McLean said:
“A vehicle was parked outside and we allege at this stage they were attempting to reverse but moved forward instead.
“That’s what we believe has happened at this stage. We are investigating.
“The vehicle rested in the rear of the salon. We believe they are all minor injuries at this stage.
“At this stage we have four people from the salon that have been injured with minor injuries and two people from the vehicle that have been treated at the scene for shock.”
All four people from the shop were conveyed to Goulburn Base Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A male person was driving the vehicle and the passenger was his wife.
A person responding to the incident said the women were very lucky to escape.
Traffic on the northbound side of Auburn Street was blocked for half an hour. At the time of writing, police were still on scene conducting investigations.
