Councillors apply for pay rise

19 Feb, 2010 10:02 AM
GOULBURN Mulwaree councilors could be in for a pay rise – including an extra $11,660 a year for the mayor – following discussions at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

After raising concerns over the cost of issues such as the CBD’s streetscape and parking patrols earlier on the night, councilors voted to put forward a submission to the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal requesting an annual pay rise to $18,200 for councillors.

They also voted to seek an increase in the mayoral fee to $45,500 - $11,660 more than Cr Carol James’ current salary.

The move would also see a $2700 pay rise for councillors, up from their current wage of $15,500. Cr Margaret O’Neill spoke in favour of the status quo, saying that no councillor went into the job for the money.
