IN a major blow for many district families, a crucial service that assists in the assessment of children with disabilities in Goulburn is about to be axed.
The Child Infant Family Tertiary Service (CIFTS), located in Faithful St, Goulburn is about to be removed within a month in the Greater Southern Area Health Service (GSAHS) restructure.
The service has 3.5 staff as well as a visiting paediatrician and services between 120 and 160 families in the district. The staff includes a paediatrician, speech pathologist, two intern psychologists, and an occupational therapist.
The announcement of the closure came out of the blue for local mother Jakki Davis, who's daughter Letisha suffers from Autism Spectrum Disorder.
"I was only advised last Thursday that it was closing in one month's time," Ms Davis said.
"I was told by chance because I spoke to Dr Nils Hansen, a paediatrician linked to the service.
