Goulburn men restore districts oldest windmill

19 Feb, 2010 09:56 AM

Brian Matthews and Tom Brown worked tirelessly on the project for seven days to turn it from a rusty lump of twisted metal back into the majestic piece of functioning machinery it once was.

Dubbed the “Iron Turbine”, the mill was one of the world’s first metal windmills and was manufactured in the United States in 1872.

Not long after that it was imported to Australia and erected on the Strathalbyn property in Myrtleville by one of its early owners.
