It's no big deal: 'We are not making decisions': Carol

INFORMAL gatherings of councillors are not decision making forums, but a chance to exchange views and gather information, according to Goulburn Mulwaree's new leaders.

Mayor Carol James and her deputy Bob Kirk support the meetings, which have come under scrutiny for their potential to flout the Local Government Act and undermine debate at ordinary meetings.

The first gathering on September 29 attracted attention for the fact it discussed items on the agenda at the inaugural formal meeting one day later. Councillors again gathered informally at Greengrocer on Friday October 2.

Cr James said they were not discussing agenda items.
