Mayor buoyed by price

22 Dec, 2008 08:18 AM
MAYOR Carol James is buoyed by the price Goulburn airport fetched and the outcome for the community.

She was commenting on the $2.65m sale to Domain Corporation, to which councillors agreed last Tuesday.

"It was quite an advance on the original offer and far better than what anyone else had put up," she said, referring partly to the October auction.

"Considering we valued the airport when the market was higher, and it fetched above valuation in a low market, you couldn't be happier than that."

She was confident that the contract was tight enough to adequately protect users, despite their concerns voiced in several recent meetings.

The Mayor said she was looking forward to Domain's director George Tzovaras making changes for the betterment of existing businesses and visitors.

"We should be very proud of what he intends to do and the job opportunities," Cr James said.

"If developed hand in hand with Kenmore Hospital, it will be great to see that site used. There is strong tourism potential."
