The guests enjoyed a fun filled night of good food, which included a three course gourmet pizza dinner and some of the region’s finest local wine, as they sat on the banks of Sooley Dam and watched the hit 2010 film “Julie and Julia”.
“It had a great atmosphere,” organising committee member Ross Stone said. “We were blessed with fantastic weather...you couldn’t have wished for anything better.”
Mr Stone also said Kingsdale was the perfect location for the evening and that all of the feedback the committee had received from guests had been positive.
“It was the first time it (an outdoor movie night) has been done in Goulburn and it worked very well,” he said.
It is too early to know exactly how much money was raised on the evening however the committee says it would be in the order of several thousand dollars.
All money raised on the night will be used to purchase equipment for the hospital’s Emergency Department, which is about to undergo renovations, with remaining funds being put toward purchasing new beds for Children’s Ward.
Mr Stone said they would consider doing it again but was reluctant to say when, adding it would depend on a number of key factors.
“It all depends on the movie and deciding what your target audience would be,” he said.
“We picked Julie and Julia because it had a food theme and it went well with the winery and created a nice atmosphere.” Goulburn Base Hospital integrated services manager Kerry Hort told the Goulburn Post she was absolutely thrilled with the evening.
“The community response was fabulous,” she said.
“It was a really enjoyable night...everybody I spoke to said they had a great time and that if we ran it again they would definitely come.”
In the last 18 months BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc has raised more than $90,000 for the hospital through notable public events including the Mile of Pennies, Tour De France Night and the highly successful Dancing with the Stars.
They have also donated a number of important pieces of equipment including a bariatric lifter, a photo therapy machine, new maternity cots and a point of care testing machine worth more than $14,000. Ms Hort said she was extremely appreciative of the donations and the hard work committee members put in.
“I think the BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc committee members should be commended for their commitment to the community and the hospital,” she said.
“(Events like this) help provide equipment for patient care which we wouldn’t be able to provide without community support.” The committee would like to thank Divall’s Earth Moving, Tutt Bryant Hire, Howard and Elly Spark from Kingsdale Winery, 2GN, the Goulburn Post, the Goulburn Workers Club and Goulburn Mulwaree Council for their support.
