New equipment comes into play

03 Jul, 2009 11:34 AM
SPORTS fields and new playgrounds are taking shape as Goulburn Mulwaree Council begins to implement more than half a million dollars worth of infrastructure funding.

Last year Council secured $504,000 in grants through the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, to be used across a range of specific areas, such as social and culture; recreation facilities; tourism; children, youth and senior facilities; access facilities and environmental initiatives.

Council's acting engineering director Terry Cooper said playground replacement had been a priority in Goulburn after Council removed several sets.

"Council removed a number of playgrounds in Goulburn after they were found to be unsafe, and didn't comply with the Australian Standard," Mr Cooper said.

"We have replaced the playground equipment and softfall at O'Brien and Leggett parks, and at the corner of Newton and Albert streets, giving the families of those areas a place to enjoy themselves, especially with the school holidays just around the corner.
