 Service cut will 'pressure families'

Service cut will 'pressure families'

15 Jun, 2009 10:37 AM
A FORMER speech pathologist with over 30 years' experience in Goulburn has questioned the proposed disbanding of the Child and Infant Tertiary Service (CIFTS).

The CIFTS, located in Faithfull St, Goulburn will be removed within a month in the Greater Southern Area Health Service (GSAHS) restructure.

Daphne Penalver worked in the Child Development Unit, which was a precursor to the CIFTS, for over 30 years.

She said the CIFTS had provided such a valuable service to district families for over three decades.

"It has provided a very much-needed service to the district, otherwise it would have been cut years ago," Mrs Penalver said.

"This is a tertiary service. This team goes to where the child lives. For an assessment this means the parents, grandparents, teachers and child-care workers can all have input, leading to a more inclusive and effective diagnosis.
