Taralga Road 'endangers lives'

13 Nov, 2009 09:45 AM
TARALGA Road is in such a state of disrepair that both residents and council staff agree it needs to be replaced.

Former Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor and regular road user Paul Stephenson said the stretch between Tarlo and Taralga “should be ripped up,” following the increased traffic from initiatives such as the Tablelands Way tourist drive.

“It’s in a deplorable state,” Mr Stephenson said.

“They’ve done a few little patch up jobs, and they’ve patched and patched and patched. It’s at the point where if (they) wanted to enter it in the Taralga Show, they’d win for the best patchwork quilt.”

He said the road - owned by the State Government, but maintained by Upper Lachlan Shire Council – had potholes so bad in some parts that “they’d push vehicles onto the other side” into oncoming traffic.
