The Mark Goodacre Cup will be held this coming Sunday December 9 at Goulburn Golf Club. The tee is open from 7am till 1pm and there are still times available on the time sheet. The event is a four person medley ambrose.
The Goodacre Cup is played each year as a tribute to Mark Goodacre who was the professional at Goulburn Golf Club and lost his life in a car accident six years ago.
The winner of last Thursday’s single stableford competition was Bill Grice with an excellent score of 44 stableford points. Runner-up was J Saxelby from Concord Golf Club with 42 stableford points. The cross-holes was won by J Saxelby with 12 points.
Nearest the pin on the eighth was Dave Oxley with 170cm; on the 11th John Hopkins managed 148cm and on the 15th S Kass was just 51cms off target.
Thursday’s competition attracted 117 players.
CCR for Thursday was 70. Ball rundown to 35 points on a countback.
Visitors to play in Thursday competition were J Saxelby, D Watkins, G Brain, S Kass from Concord Golf Club and G Boys from Coffs Harbour.
On Saturday, December’s monthly medal was held and the winner was Brett Clarkson with 66 nett.
Grade winners: A-grade, Jason Dunn 67 nett on a countback; B-grade, Bob Stewart 67 nett; C-grade, Mick O’Connor 67 nett; veteran winner, Shaun McKavanagh 70 nett.
The best scratch score was Brett Clarkson with 70 off the stick.
Nearest the pins: 8th John Hopkins, 102cm; 11th Mick Fisher 260cm; 15th Bob Stewart, 104cm.
Saturday’s competition attracted 120 players.
CCR for Saturday was 71. Ball rundown to 74 nett on a countback.
Visitors to play on Saturday were A Spencer-Asquith, M Fisher from Orange and N Trevaskis from Tully Park.
Coming events: Thursday, December 6, single stableford; Saturday, December 8, single stableford; Sunday, December 9, Mark Goodacre Cup - times are still available for this event. The cost is $10 per player.
Christmas Gala Days will be held on Saturday, December 22 and Sunday, December 23. The cost for these days will be $10 per player.
Nominations are being called for golfers wishing to play Pennants for the club next year. The club have entered teams in the following divisions - A-grade, A-reserve, B-grade, juniors so, if you are interested in playing in one of the above teams, there is a list on the noticeboard.
On Friday nights, the raffles are being held so, if you fancy your chances of winning hams, turkeys, meat trays, seafood trays, please come along and support your club. Tickets are sold from 6-7pm with drawing of the raffles commencing at 7pm.
Goulburn RSL Social Golf Club
Event was a four ball best ball, with the trophy donated by RSL Golf Club. Reg Thoms and Brian Cady on 50 were the winners. Runners up were Charlie Dorsett and Chris Ryan 47 countback. The ball competition went to, Tom Heath, D Terry 47, George Barlow, Reg Thoms 46, Brian Flemming, John Prigg 46. Nearest the pin on the eighth was Graham Grocott and on the 15th Brian Flemming. Bradman: Glen Swanson, Dino Andreatta. Next week’s competition is the Mark Goodacre four person ambrose. Notices: D Terry, holed in one from the sixth tee to fifth Green. Winner A grade play-off Glen Grocott.
Tully Park Early Birds Golf Club
A big field last week for the weekly 12 hole stableford competition resulted in a four way countback to decide the eventual winner with Ted Bayliss having ten points for the last three holes being declared the winner on 29 points.
Russell Schmitt, Don Grimston and Max Burgess led the ball rundown with their 29’s from L Gegg, C Osmond 28, Robbie Sheekey 27, J Leary 26, K Fitzsimmons, R Holgate, R Power and P Griffin on 25 points from James Brewer who received the special ball.
All players playing in the midweek competition are asked to please stop moving the tee markers during their round of golf. Markers are set out at the start of the week for this event and it has been noticed that some groups move markers. Tee positions should be the same from the first to the last day of this competition, so please leave them alone.
On Sunday December 2, members came out in big numbers to support the Spastic Centre charity golf day four person ambrose competition.
With a large number of trophies on offer, the results were as follows.
Men’s group winners with an amazing 49 nett were P Toole, D Dunn, W Thorn and J Mathews while B Pengelly, J Piggott, R Holgate and B Mills were runners up with 51 nett.
Mixed group winners were J Moran, R Power, L Power, D Grimston with a 52 nett, while ladies group team winners were Joy Leary, Alma Harvison, Elizabeth Tucker and Noeline Peterson on 66 nett.
Longest drive on the (cut snake) was Joy Leary with Noeline Peterson getting the ladies nearest the pin on the 5th and Phil Toole winning the men’s on the 14th hole.
Raffles went to Wally Thorn with number 93 and Lindsay Gegg with number 07.
Ball rundown as follows, with captain’s name from each group only. P Toole 49, R Holgate, A Croker, R Selby, J Moran, N Gegg 52 nett, R Sheekey, L Hogan 54, G Fitzgibbon 56, G Cooper 57, K Bensley on 58, and J Leary on 66 nett.
Barry Pengelly, the organiser of this event presented trophies on the day and also made special mention of Bruce Bowen and Jan Mills who did the starting, and Anne Piggott who assisted in the club with the refreshments.
Barry also thanked all those members who supported the golf day to help raise money for the Spastic Centre, saying that the day has been run at this club for over 20 years with generous support from sponsors and this clubs members.
Next Sunday December 9players will be competing in the annual Captains v President golf day four ball stableford, with trophies from Les Thurkettle and Russell Schmitt.
