GOULBURN could have a new $9 million saleyards capable of handling more livestock within two years if a development application is approved.
The DA from Kattle Gear Australia Pty Ltd for the facility in Mazamet Rd was finally lodged with Goulburn Mulwaree Council last Wednesday.
The document came after more than six years of waiting. Kattle Gear promised the new facility when the former Goulburn City Council sold them the existing Finlay Rd yards for $100 nine years ago. The development has endured delays with both parties.
The proposal involves construction of an undercover steel selling area with 400 sheep selling pens and 200 cattle pens, mostly on a soft floor.
It will be capable of holding 20,000 sheep and 2500 cattle and hosting 10 special sales a year, including horses.
The new Goulburn Regional Livestock Exchange is pegged for a 24-hectare site on the western side of Mazamet Rd, almost next door to Southern Meats abattoir.
