AS part of the Melbourne Cup Tour famous jockey John Letts will be in Crookwell this Sunday to mark the visit of the Melbourne Cup to Crookwell.
The trophy will visit only four country towns in New South Wales and the Crookwell Picnic Race club committee members enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to bring the Cup to Crookwell.
They decided to organise a family day as a thank you for the support given by sponsors and patrons of the Picnic Race Club’s annual race meetings.
Mr Letts will take part in the street parade at 11.45am when the Melbourne Cup will make its way up Goulburn Street, along Spring Street and into Memorial Oval for the start of a family fun afternoon with a free barbecue lunch and games for young and old.
Letts started riding in 1959 and retired in 1988, an incredible career of almost spanning four decades.
