Smith’s tenner sinks Moss Vale

30 Jan, 2012 08:32 AM
OPENING bowlers Brad Smith and Mik Webber spearheaded Tully Park to a comprehensive outright win over Moss Vale.

Moss Vale resumed their second innings at 1/7 which soon became 2/17 when Webber sent back Tim Sturton, caught by Mick Hoskins in the slips for 2.

Partner in crime Smith then stepped in to remove Scott McKie, Daniel Bull, Peter Canastrari and Blake Parker to have Moss Vale in all sorts of trouble at 6/36.

Webber then got himself back in the wickets column by snaring Murray Burgoyne and Paul Brandon. This gave Smith the impressive match figures of 10 wickets for 40 runs including a five wicket hall in each innings.

Webber gave Smith great support in claiming match figures of 7 for 24. Brad Mitchell and Mick Hosking picked up a wicket each to have Moss Vale all out for 87, with Blake Parker on 15, Matt Conquest 20 and Paul Brandon with a resolute 18 the only Moss Vale batsmen to make significant contributions.

Tully Park’s quest for 86 runs for outright victory got off to a poor start when Mick Earl was caught and bowled by Brown off the first ball he faced.

Justin Rowlings with 48 hard earned runs and Mik Webber 20 steered the Tully Park ship into safe waters with Pete Bullock and Ben Haynes chipping in to ensure Tully secured the 16 points on offer for the outright victory and cement their stranglehold on a top two position on the Southern Lands ladder.

Troy Brown with 1/20, Scott McKie 2/21 and Peter Canastrari 2/13 all tried hard but could not match the deeds of Smith and Webber earlier in the day.

Across town at Seiffert Oval, Coolavin continued their march to a semi-final berth by bowling Wingello out for 131 runs. Coolavin secured the win by passing the Wingello total with five wickets in the shed, with Brad Croker and Hamish Copeland sharing a 50 run unbeaten partnership to get Coolavin home.
