IT took some time for local trainer Graeme Spackman to get Natural Star right but on Friday the faith Spackman had put in the four-year-old was repaid.
“These days you’ve just gotta have some faith,” Spackman said after his first win of 2010 but still said the win wasn’t an expected one.
“It was a little bit surprising (that he managed to get the win), maybe a bit yeah.”
The gelding gave a jump at the end to win in a photo over smart mare Cappy, who looked to have the race sewn up before the official verdict.
Spackman said in Friday’s Post Natural Star was suited to the 1600m journey and his statement proved prophetic as Michael Travers piloted him home in the Park Street Sydney TAB Maiden Plate.
