There are 44 Mixed, 40 men’s and 20 women’s teams doing battle for the $12,000 prize money up for offer. Chris Roberts is running on for the Southern Suns Men’s 20s, Joel McPherson for the Men’s Open and Emma Price, Rachael Ross and Courtney Wallace for the Women’s Open.
Sophie Broadhead is competing in the Southern Suns mixed team. Seventy-eight teams participated in last year’s Knockout and the old record of 102 teams was set about a decade ago. A couple of interesting statistics are that only 40 teams from last year renominated and that the Women’s teams have doubled in numbers this year.
There are teams from Melbourne, Wodonga, Albury, Wagga, Leeton, Griffith, Cootamundra, Young, Dubbo, Orange, Newcastle, Central Coast, Sydney, Albion Park, Nowra, Moss Vale, Canberra and Yass.
The Yass Touch Knockout commenced in 1989 with 29 teams competing. For the last decade, 80 plus teams have participated each year after a record number of 102 teams in the early noughties.
The competition is the largest of its kind in Australasia and is regarded as a tournament that produces a high standard of touch as well as being a great social event.
