THE campaign for Hume has been likened to a horse race where the Liberal candidate has been compared to Black Caviar and the rest of us have been asked why we’re running when Black Caviar got out of the barriers a week early.

To start with, Black Caviar only came to prominence after 14 or 15 wins. As far as I’m aware the Liberal candidate has only won the race to be the Liberal candidate.
Black Caviar only had to carry one jockey when it ran, unfortunately the Liberal candidate is carrying two jockeys this campaign by the names of Barry O’Farrell and Campbell Newman.
I believe the pressure of being the 10 to 1 on favourite and the weight of that extra jockey will take its toll in the end.
He may have a 10 length lead at the moment but it’s a two mile race and we haven’t covered the first furlong yet.
I’d like to finish by reminding people of another horse race back in 1939 when a 40 to 1 on favourite got beaten in the straight.
That horse was Ajax and I might change my name to Spear Chief.
Bruce Nicholson, KAP Candidate for Hume.
