About 8.30pm on Wednesday (December 26), a 42-year-old man was detected driving at 159km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Hume Highway at Goulburn. He was issued with an infringement notice for exceed speed more than 45km/h and a suspension notice.
In an unrelated incident, at about 4.30pm Thursday (December 27), a 23-year-old male provisional driver was detected driving at 141km/h in a 100km/h zone on Federal Highway at Collector. He was issued with an infringement notice for exceed speed more than 30km/h and a suspension notice.
These infringements were just two of many detected by NSW Police during Operation Safe Arrival (now in its sixth day) as the NSW holiday road toll rose to eight.
The most recent incident occurred about 9.20am on Thursday (December 27), when a 50-year-old man was struck by a car travelling on Ulan Road at Mudgee. He suffered extensive injuries and died at the scene.
On Thursday police conducted 41,011 breath tests (up from 39,497 last year) with 21 charges laid (down from 38 last year).
Meanwhile, police caught 812 motorists speeding (down from 818 last year) and issued 952 infringements for other traffic offences (down from 1296 last year).
Operation Safe Arrival began last Friday (21 December 2012) and concludes at 11.59pm on Friday 4 January 2013, and targets speeding, drink-driving, seatbelt and other traffic offences.
Double demerit points will be in place from 12.01am Friday 21 December 2012 until 11.59pm on Tuesday 1 January 2013 for speeding, seatbelt and helmet offences.

About 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 December 2012), a 36-year-old man stopped before an RBT site on Henry Lawson Drive at Peakhurst and attempted to swap seats with a passenger. He was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive whilst disqualified, as he was disqualified from driving until 2038. He is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on the 31 January 2013.
Botany Bay Highway Patrol:
Shortly before 7pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 December 2012), a 24-year-old man was detected driving at 113km/h in a 70km/h zone on the Cumberland Highway at Smithfield. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however; the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle eventually stopped on Woodpark Road. He was taken to Merrylands Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, drive on road when licence refused, breach of bail and exceed speed more than 30km/h. He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Thursday 27 December 2012).
