Francis from Ashland, Kentucky managed to stay out front for virtually all the feature race, avoiding the traffic and most of the collisions, that took their toll on the field, to claim the major prize.
Taking out second spot ahead of Western Australian enthusiast Michael Holmes was the youngest driver in the field Devin Moran from Dresden, Ohio, a second generation speedway driver following in the footsteps of his father, Donnie Moran who has made countless visits to Australia to shake up the locals.
Administrator for the NSW Late Models Ross Nicastri said he was pleased with the number of cars that nominated for the NSW Title in Goulburn.
He was hoping for a strong representation of NSW cars as well as visitors from interstate particularly considering his families ties to the Goulburn District.
With the numbers of entries split in paired heats with about seven cars in each the drivers were able to show off their skills and the power of their machines as they vied for the front positions in the feature race.
It was obvious that some of the drivers struggled initially with the setup of their cars to match the slippery and somewhat bouncy Goulburn surface.
Part way through the night the easterly misty rain descended on the course making it even more slippery and restricting visibility for the drivers.
This meant that drivers had to retune their cars set up as the track conditions changed.
It also made racing more difficult for the drivers in the support races on the program including the juniors, stock rods series cars and GPs.
A couple of the juniors found the slippery conditions a little tough and the outside wall a little hard.
In the GPs who only started with a small field mechanical ore electrical failures took their toll and their feature race was cut in length so the race did not become a last one standing event.
Goulburn Speedway’s next scheduled event is the Compacts Australian Titles on February 19
