The annual day of love brings joy to some and mayhem to others, according to local florist Gerry Exner.
The owner of the popular Rose City Florist had already processed 50 orders at the time of publication, with more “rush orders” expected to be placed today and tomorrow morning.
“As Valentine’s Day falls right on payday we are expecting more last minute purchases,” he said.No doubt one of the busiest days of the year for florists worldwide, the local retailer said Valentine’s Day trade is a bonanza, with thousands of dollars worth of flower arrangements purchased on the day.
Seeking the competitive edge, the Rose City Florist proprietor has branched out in terms of wrapping, to reduce his carbon footprint as well as make a stylish change.
“We are debuting our new hessian bag wraps which are really environmentally friendly,” Mr Exner said.
Rose City Florist is now the only store in town to offer the hessian wrap, he said.
All of the roses in-store are locally sourced, and for a popular alternative, he suggested a mixed bouquet as opposed to the traditional rose bouquet.
“We have a variety of options from bouquets to boxes to single roses. Lillies are also a popular choice,” he said.
A full range of chocolates, teddies, gift bouquets and balloons are also available.
