Lock Simon Hegarty, breakaway Peter Altona, inside centre Mik Webber and second- rower Boyd Newby received call-ups into the rep squad on the back of outstanding performances at the gala carnival.
The quartet will join 18 other likeminded players from country rugby ranks and set foot on Canberra Stadium for a pre-Super rugby showdown with the Australian Police representative team on July 14.
Fellow Dirty Reds Matt Bird and Aiden Greaves also donned the Monaro strip at the championship, but missed selection in the provincial squad. Monaro opened the competition with a 48-20 loss to eventual champions, the Southern Inland Rams.
They bounced back the following day, notching a high-scoring 53-26 win over the South Coast Marlins. Hegarty, Altona, Webber and Newby won’t be thinking about their Canberra Stadium clash too much at present. They’re more focused on their upcoming Monaro Cup fixture.
The Dirty Reds tomorrow tackle RMC at Poidevin Oval tomorrow. Kick-off for first grade is 3pm. The Dirty Twos get underway at 1.30pm.
