Chadwick has been paving her way to the big time, winning People’s Choice at the Telstra Road to Discovery, earning a spot on the main stage at this year’s Byron Blues Festival and recently appearing in the recent music video for Maroon 5’s “Daylight”.
Hailing from Canada, Blais’ impressive folk style has been described as “young, edgy and powerfully present”.
Gaining a reputation as a fiery performer, she has set crowds alight around the globe, including the U.S, Canada, Taiwan and Australia and has shared the stage with the likes of Owl Eyes and Gossling.
Performing a mix of blues, roots, folk and pop, the two will welcome in the weekend with a show not to be missed.
Self-confessed music addict Chadwick is no stranger to Goulburn, having spent five years here from early 2002, competing in the Goulburn Idol contest, and playing in local band ‘Utility’.
“It will definitely bring a feeling of home,” she said on Monday.
Having not returned for more than a year, Chadwick said she was looking forward to performing at the Goulburn Club, having missed the community feel and friendly atmosphere.
“It’s been quite a while since I’ve been back… I’m really keen, it feels like forever,” she said.
“The Goulburn Club is a great, historic venue. It’s intimate with a community feel.”
Having performed for more than half her life in bands and more recently as a solo artist, Chadwick told the Post that her passion to perform has developed into an addiction.
“I’m addicted to music; it has a real hold on me.
“I was brought up listening to Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, JJ Carroll and all the classics that inspire me.”
An appreciation of music that evokes heart and soul and a love for the blues sets her apart from the mainstream circuit; her song writing inspired by a raw and real style of music.
“I’m not the biggest fan of what I call ‘plastic music’… life, things close to the heart, real instruments and real music is what inspires me.
“The Blues is ever evolving, a mix and crossover of so many styles.”
The two performers met early last year at the Gulgong Folk Festival, and hit it off straight away, becoming friends and admirers of the other’s musicality.
“We played a couple of shows together and really clicked and liked each other’s music,” Chadwick said.
“It will be a nice intimate show… My music has a blues, roots feel and Faye is a folk, pop performer. It’s a nice crossover of genres.
“We’ll get up together as well and perform a diverse array of music good to boogie to! “Get down and see some live music… It’s better than telly!” For more information visit either of their websites: www.genevievechadwick.com or www.fayeblais.com.
