$20,000 teed up for charity

THE rain stayed away and dollars ticked over. Organisers anticipate well in excess of $20,000 was raised from Goulburn Invitational Charity Golf - $6000 of which goes directly to the Crescent School.

The remainder will be stored away for a rainy day and donated to a worthy cause when needed.

Some 120 golfers, guns and hackers alike, converged on the Goulburn Golf Club for the occasion, played out in the form of a three person Ambrose.

The team of Bob Kirk, Brian Webb and Mick O’Neill were declared overall winners with a score of 52-and-two-thirds.

Mark Thompson, Troy Devine and Paul Buttson were the scratch winners with 13 under. Mark Hazleword, Roger Gann and Alan Walcott were the best among the social golfers and Rob Sheeky, Dean Thompson and Tom Antony the members.

Rob Holgate, Digga Gann and Jono Gann were deemed best dressed, although the group also received numerous complaints about the damage their hot pink fluro shirts caused to players’ eyes.

New sponsor Russell Hogan from Inspirations Paint in Clinton Street received the Geoff Jansz award for catering excellence after he supplied an exquisite cheese platter prior to teeing off.

Chief organisers Barry McEntee and Steve Jones are grateful to sponsors and individual donors of this year’s event.

Sponsors included Shell Australia, Goulburn Hydraulic and Plant, Southern Cross Surveyors, Baxter Boots, ARW Multigroup, Australian Wool Network, Lowes Petroleum, Goulburn Party Hire, Electel Services, Trapper’s Bakery of Goulburn, Goulburn Mazdam Big Merino Shell, Free Choice Tobacconist, Divall’s Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage, First National Real Estate, UniGas, Signage One, Goulburn Post, Independent Motor Auctions, Ganter Constructions, Fife Financial Services, Ben Holgate Wholesale Cars, Best Environmental Technologies and Millennium Windows.
