The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain for people in the Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes & Plains, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes and Upper Western forecast districts
A rain band with embedded thunderstorms is moving slowly across central parts of New South Wales.
Locally heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is forecast for the Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, North West Slopes & Plains, Central Tablelands forecast districts and parts of the Illawarra, Southwest Slopes, and Upper Western forecast districts.
According to BOM, Goulburn has already experienced some generous rainfall in February, with 10.4mm recorded (at the airport) on the 11th, 36.6mm on the 24th and 8.4mm on the 25th.
Rainfall totals from 9am to 3pm today inlcude: Cobar Airport 53mm and Forbes 47mm.
24hr rainfall totals to 9am Thursday include: Tredbo AWS 115mm, Cabramurra AWS 94mm, Wyalong 66mm and Wilcannia 60mm.
The Severe Weather Warning for the Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts and parts of the Riverina and Lower Western forecast districts has been cancelled, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
· Keep clear of fallen power lines.
· Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
· Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
· If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
· Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road.
