The husband-and-wife team last week arrived from southeast Queensland to fill shoes left by popular Goulburn Golf Club professional, Graeme Bugden.
They’ve been taken aback by members’ generosity.
Greg Croker’s led the charge in pro shop renovations while others volunteered to babysit their nine month old daughter, Sophie.
“It’s been a really good first week,” Jon said on Friday.
“The people who’ve come in to welcome us are friendly. I’m very impressed.”
The O’Sullivans bring with them plenty of golf and business experience.
Jon learnt to ply his trade as a junior on the Sunshine Coast and played at a representative level with 2013 US Masters champion, Adam Scott.
His Australasian PGA touring career was plagued by back injuries before he finally shelved the clubs in 2009.
Crystal is every bit equipped as her husband to fill the role of golf club professional.
She obtained her professional card in 2005 and is in the process of completing a business degree.
The couple, who met each other through the game, are impressed by the Goulburn Golf Club.
“There’s some really strong player, guys like Luke Humphries, Mick Gerstenberg, Jono Gann, they’re quality players,” Jon continued.
“We’ve got better players here than most clubs with twice the members.”
Their goal: provide a high standard service and build rapport with members.
“We want to give the members the best service we can,” Jon said.
“I’ve asked Graeme a few questions.
He was a really nice guy and well liked. Hopefully the members like us as much as they liked him.”
The incoming professionals got their first taste of weekly club life with women’s and men’s competitions on Wednesday and Thursday.
The next noteworthy item on their agenda is this Sunday’s Junior Pump Championships. Jon and Crystal will conduct free lessons from midday, followed by a sausage sizzle and a nine hole round of golf.
Winners have the opportunity to progress to national championships on the Gold Coast. Cost for the Pump round is $15.
