Conditions are expected to clear on Saturday, but yesterday’s constant downpour and today’s predicted rain may determine whether or not sport is again put on hold.
Last weekend’s opening round was postponed for three of Goulburn football codes due to the waterlogged conditions of ACT government managed sports grounds.
The Dirty Reds Rugby Union had aimed to take on ADFA in Canberra, the Swans had an opening grudge match against Yass, and the Strikers looked to open their campaign against the UC Pumas.
The Reds will now have the tough task of opening season 2014 with a double game weekend as they take on the Hall Bushrangers in Hall tomorrow before returning to play ADFA at Poidevin Oval on Sunday.
The Swans had looked forward to their semi-final loss reply against Yass in Yass, but they now start their campaign against the Tuggeranong Hawks down in Canberra this Sunday.
As for the Strikers, they too start season 2014 on the road when they take on Brindabella FC in Canberra tomorrow. “I hope the rain hold out,” Strikers coach Robin Caulfield told the Post.
“Last weekend it was perfect weather to play here in Goulburn, but the whole round got called off because of what was happening in Canberra.”
