On Friday, Cr Saville dubbed the facility a “mess”.
“It’s our asset and an unpleasant corner of what is a beautiful park,” he said.
Despite the push, Cr Saville received no seconder to the plan, in which he requested Council fund some $12,000 toward the continual clean-up of graffiti from the facility.
$2,000 of that figure was outlined for initial clean-ups and the extra $10,000 for continual work.
Cr Saville said he was not disheartened by the lapse but satisfied that he was true to his beliefs.
“Council decided not to second it, I had anticipated it was a possibility,” Cr Saville said on Wednesday.
“I stood up for something I believe in and Council made the decision and I’m quite satisfied that I stood up for what I wanted to do for the City.
“I’m certainly anti-graffiti in the town, that will always be maintained but Council has now had the opportunity to remove an unsightly mess and didn’t take it up.”
Just last week a Council delegation returned from sister-City Shibetsu, Japan, many in admiration of the general cleanliness and lack-of graffiti in the City.
