Their 34-4 victory over Boorowa at the weekend, means they have moved back into second spot and can stay there by winning their last three fixtures.
Harden is the only side that can challenge the 'Maggies' for second and should have little trouble getting the points in their last three games, with a charmed run home.
Yass on the other hand, have to play two top four sides before the end of the season including the undefeated Brahmans in the last round. If the Magpies were to defeat Bungendore this Saturday and Crookwell next week, they would more than likely need to be the first team in two years to knock off the Brahmans to reach the qualifying final against you guessed it - the Brahmans.
But the Magpies will only be looking as far ahead as Bungendore, who they only beat in the dying seconds of their first clash at Walker Park. The Tigers this year have an intimidating forward pack and at Mick Sherd Oval are a daunting prospect.
Yass did enough to win at Boorowa and nothing more. They will have to improve significantly to topple the fourth-place Tigers but if they do it will make for a mouth-watering clash with the Brahmans on August 9 at Walker Park.
With a host of players out, the Magpies had to experiment with a new look back line and only had three reserves. Regular hooker Jai Smith went to five-eighth, while Josh Doak and Marc Townsend played in the centres and Tim Regan went from the wing to fullback. Despite only having one training session to work with that combination, they looked dangerous every time they went wide and were unlucky to not score more points.
The Players' Player points went to stand-in hooker Sam Hall, who provided quick and clean ball to the halves and forwards and set up a try.
Yass Magpies 34 (Jai Smith 2, J Hall, Newling, Rawlinson and Regan tries; Regan 5 goals) defeated Boorowa 4.
