The competition is open to all musicians and singers from 5-18 years of age. They will be playing from Clifford St down to the Verner St intersection.
The Buskout program is being run by the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium in conjunction with Southern Tablelands Arts (STARTS) and Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s ‘Be Seen, Be Heard’ youth program.
Goulburn Regional Conservatorium’s Manager of Performance and Outreach Keva Abotomey is excited about hosting the program.
“We have so many talented young musicians in our region, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase them in a different environment,” Ms Abotomey said.
“Businesses along Auburn St have been very generous in supporting us, with 22 businesses offering to host a busker outside their store for a two hour period.
“It will also be useful to bring some of your loose change to throw in the hats of your favourite buskers on the day. It should bring some youthful liveliness and fun to the city’s main street!”
Conservatorium Director Paul Scott- Williams is also excited about the event and hopes it will become an annual winter event.
“Goulburn is such a wonderfully diverse town, full of young people with many interests and talents,” he said.
“There are certainly young people who are brilliant at sports and dramatic and visual arts, and also many who are enthusiastically making music! I realised that there didn’t seem to be many opportunities for these kids to get out into the public eye and have some fun playing music on the street, with the chance of winning a prize or two. I hope the community will get behind this idea as we would like to see this become an annual event to warm up the winter with music!”
A secret judging panel will be walking up and down Auburn St throughout the afternoon.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward will present the awards at a prize giving ceremony at the Goulburn Club at 3pm. This will then be followed by a concert from the winners.
Prizes include a free half day session at the Rock Con recording studio, vouchers from Powerpoint Music in Bowral, from 98 Chairs, Better Music and also some prizes from Sanity.
The Con will have more exciting events coming up later in the year, so keep your eyes peeled for more information.
