THE 1970s was the time of Glam Rock, glitter, jump suits and disco, but few pop bands of the time out-shone or out-sold the Swedish band ABBA.

The Goulburn Club has featured a musical tribute to some of the greats of rock and pop over the last few years, including tributes to Bob Dylan, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
40 years after ABBAs success at the Eurovision song contest, the Goulburn Club will recognise the achievements and lasting popularity of the group with a special celebration event tonight.
ABBA formed in Stockholm 1972, comprising of Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni- Frid Lyngstad.
After winning Eurovision in 1974 with the song Waterloo, they became one of the most comerically successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1975 to 1982.
ABBA have now sold over 380 million albums and singles worldwide, which makes them one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Their music has been celebrated in several films including Muriel’s Wedding and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Mamma Mia.
A variety of local performers will each perform their own versions of one to four of their favourite ABBA songs tonight.
The performers will each make the songs their own in any way they like – soloists, bands, parodies, serious interpretations and definitely some fun and a laugh.
This is a chance to travel back to the fabulous 70’s. Many performers and audience members will dress for the occasion – digging back into their wardrobes for that 70s piece they wore in the days of glitter and glam.
Jumpsuits, fake leather, sequins and velour, capes, kaftans and flares – anything fits the bill.
There will be music from the 70’s, ABBA videos playing, special ABBA themed cocktails and a Swedish theme meal.
The Club will open from 5pm for pre-show drinks and food will be served from 7pm with the show to start around 7:30pm.
Artists booked to perform on the night include The Bugs, The Golden Flowers, GRUB, Faith White, Bonnie and Steve, Sibling Reveille, Fabba, Ron McLaughlin and Greg Angus.
