The match was everything both sides had come to expect from each other.
But despite the Dirty Reds hoping to finish their season’s unbeaten run with a bang, it was Hall who had the appetite for success.
“I think our heart won it,” an exuberant Pat Gallagher coach of the Bushrangers, said after his sides win.
“We had a plan, we stuck to it, and we just put in and we just refused to stop.”
With Goulburn down 13-5 with ten minutes to go, a late try to the Reds saw a thrilling finish as Goulburn desperately tried to overcome the one point deficit.
But as it had been all game, Hall’s defence held true and was unbroken despite enormous pressure in the second half.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from our boys. I knew it would be tight, I told you it would be tight, and it was tight,” Gallagher said.
“Full credit to Goulburn they’ve been a fantastic club this year and in all our games I think there has only been six points in it over four games. They’re a great club.”
For Goulburn, silly mistakes proved too costly.
On numerous occasions the Reds looked to be in prime position to score but was un-done by a dropped ball or a mis-directed pass.
“I think the boys were a bit rattled. We tried to push the pass a bit too much, and instead of playing composed and playing to our structure, we really didn’t do that,” Dirty Reds reserve grade coach Cole Davis said after the match.
“But we still should have won, it was just silly mistakes really.”
Previous encounters between the two sides in reserve-grade had seen Goulburn prevail 5-0 and 7-5.
But as the “Raa Raa Bushrangers” chant rang across Poidevin from the vocal Hall supporters, it was clear that Hall had held on for a memorable victory.
