However the task won’t be easy and the game is set to go down to the wire says their captain Scott Grant.

He would know better than most. The match will pit him against his Capital League teammates, including Australian striker Glenn Turner.

“It’s been pretty tight all year between us and Blues. We’ve handled Taralga and Drifters pretty well, but when it comes to Blues they’ve got a couple up on us and we’ve got a couple up on them,” Grant told the Post.

“They have Glenn up front now which is a big difference for them… he is not only Australia’s best striker but one of the best strikers in the world.”

For the Blues, revenge will be sweet if they manage to get up over the Fireflies.

The Blues were narrowly beaten by the Flys in last years first grade grand-final.

“Hopefully it’s the changing of the guard this weekend and we can get one back on them,” Turner said.

Turner has played eight games for the Blues in his first year with the club between Australian and Capital League commitments.

“It’s different, obviously you’re playing against some of your good mates which is good fun to be honest, but some of these guys that we’re playing against this weekend are some of the best guys in this comp but also the Canberra comp.”

 THE women’s first grade grandfinal is set to be just as fiery.

Taralga will take on Ajax is what Tigers captain Shelly Picker says will be “old school hockey.”

“We’re both very similar,” she said.

“We have a similar playing style, we’re older teams, very experienced , and we’ve played against each other for a while.”

Ajax captain Fiona Croker believes her team’s unity will prevail against the Tigers.

She says her team have been playing with each other for years.

“We sort of have our old team back after we all had children and studied,” Croker said.

“So we have a lot of players back together who have played together for a long time since we were in juniors. It makes for good team cohesion.”

Both teams have seen closely fought matches so far this season that has included a number of draws and a Taralga win.

“We’re starting to come good at the right time of the season,” Croker said.

“We were third all year and now we’re into the grand final. It’s a pretty big effort.”

n Tomorrow’s grand-finals day begins at the Hockey Arena at 9am with the under-18s Drifter vs Spud Diggers grand-final.

Junior grand-finals will continue until the senior finals in the afternoon.

First grade women Ajax vs Taralga begins on East field at 2.10pm.

First grade men North Blue vs Fireflys follows at 3.30pm.
