Suggestions are circulating that the fast food giant plans to occupy a store in the old Commonwealth Bank building, on the corner of Auburn and Clifford Streets.
Property developer Paul O’Rourke wishes the rumours were true.
Unfortunately, they aren’t, he says.
“It’d be nice if McDonald’s asked to go in there. I’ve also had someone tell me Hogs Breath was going in there,” he said.
“It’s just not true.”
Mr O’Rourke is yet to attract a new tenant for the building, despite emblazoning it with promotional signs and his phone number.
He believes the property will soon attract a budding business.
“I might have to be a bit patient, but it will work out,” he explained.
While the future of that building remains unclear, positivity is growing across the remainder of the CBD.
Two cafes opened this month – one a second Coffee Guru franchise on the main streetscape and the other Café Cherry Beans, in Centro Mall.
A pizza shop is on the cusp of opening a block further south, while a Dick Smith store is the pipeline at Centro.
Furthermore, a second CD shop is nearing opening near Subway, while a craft store has established itself near the Hibernian Hotel.
Moreover, the Park Café – owned by the same company in charge of the Paragon – has recorded a steady trade since opening its doors the public.
Additionally, Boost Juice is eager to establish a franchise in Goulburn.
The business increase follows Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s decision to pledge $400,000 to a widespread CBD revamp.
The CBD upgrade includes the planting of trees on the media strip; creation of gardens on street corners; and more suitable paving.
