The crew, made up of some 30 young people from all walks of life, have been meeting together since the beginning of the year to brainstorm, plan and direct local initiatives for youth.
To date, a youth forum has been held, short film workshops provided, an app released and countless events staged at the hands of the group.
“For the first few meetings we were sort of talking about what we would like to see in the community and now we’re at the point of bringing them to fruition,” Mulwaree High School student and crew member Ben Lyons said.
“It seems to be getting pretty positive vibes from everyone. At first we had fliers handed around at the school as a kind of survey for the youth about what they like and don’t like about Goulburn and everyone was like “what the hell is Be Seen Be Heard”, but now everyone’s jumping on board and recognising the work.”
Over the next two weeks a range of events have been organised by the group.
These include:
- A boys night in tomorrow night, which will provide an opportunity for local high school aged boys to sit back and unwind. The event will be held at the PCYC and will run from 7:30pm til 11pm. There will be console games, rock climbing, boxing and more.
- Free hip hop classes are being held each Friday night at the McDermott Centre from 5:30pm to 7pm.
- DJ / Producer workshops are being held today from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Goulburn Regional Conservatorium Rock Con. They will be held again on September 29 and October 1.
- Short Film workshops will be held on October 2,3 and 4 from 9:30-3:30pm at the McDermott Centre. Bookings are required and can be made through Alysha House on 0477 275 484.
