But it doesn’t stop their passion for the red and green.
Come Sunday the four, like the thousands of other fans across Australia, will be hoping the Rabbitohs can break their 43- year-old premiership drought.
It’s shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated grand-finals in recent times. Souths, along with the Canterbury Bulldogs, have huge supporter bases, and both have had sensational seasons in 2014.
For Souths however, who are arguably the NRL’s most iconic club, they go into this Sunday evening’s match as firm sentimental favourites.
For a club whose seen so much glory, the last four decades have been tough.
Just ask Matt, Luke, Mik and Langers.
In these four Goulburn boys’ lifetimes, it’s only been hardships, close calls, non-existence, Hollywood owners and Burgess brothers.
Now finally, they have made it to the grand-final. But nothing’s guaranteed, the Bulldogs are no pushovers.
Their remarkable year has just as a remarkable story in Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds who have had a fairy tale seasons so far.
But for them to get past Souths, they’re going to have to get past of 43 years of pent up emotion.
Here’s what these four local lovers of the green and red had to say about their teams’ chances on Sunday:
Matthew Hindi-
“They big forward pack will win it for them. Plus we have skill out the back with Dyan Walker, Alex Johnston and Greg Inglis. Lote Tequri is playing well as well.”
Luke Shaw-
“We’re playing better than all the teams at the moment. Reynolds and Tuqiri looked really good last week and the pressure didn’t really get to them. I think come Sunday that will be all the difference. “
Mik Webber-
“I think we have just peaked at the right time. We’re really on a roll and I think everything we touch is turning to gold at the moment. The Bulldogs have limped into the finals with a couple of close wins, I think momentum will get us over the line.
Luke Langbein-
“Yeah momentum will get us there. We had two pretty easy finals wins in the end, plus had a weekend off. The Bulldogs had to struggle their way through, they might be cooked the old dogs.
