Bringing together many solid city class pacers, the meeting is highlighted by race 7, the $14,000 Goulburn Produce & Rural Supplies Pace which sees a top class field of pacers engaged, including the former glamour horses Bonavista Bay and Franco Jamar who are both on the comeback trail. The group 1 winners are joined by the Goulburn track record holder Chariot King and Ladyship Mile winner Vansumic.
In what promises to be an intriguing contest, it’s the Kevin Pizzuto trained Freyberg wo appears best placed to make amends for his last start loss as $2 favourite at Bathurst last Sunday. To be driven by James Rattray, the 7yo gelding is well drawn in barrier 4, and looks likely to take up the running and maintain his perfect record at Goulburn.
In the opening race of the program, the $10,000 AGL Energy Tabcorp Park Menangle Country Series Heat, the David Hewitt trained and driven Holm Three is looking to make it 5 wins on the trot. A New Zealand import, the mare is owned by former Crookwell Stock and Station agent Peter Mellington who purchased the mare earlier this year.
Holm Three debuted with a resounding win at Eugowra before taking out the $20,000 Canola Cup final earlier this month. She followed that up with a powerful win at Bathurst last Sunday and is well drawn to repeat the effort today. “She was devastating at Eugowra; drew to win and went really well” stated Hewitt. The mare’s performance was so strong that she equaled the track record mile rate of 1:58.1, and now shares that honour with the open class pacer Marooned.
Interestingly, Holm Three who was purchased from New Zealand, traces back to Mademoiselle who is also the great grand dam of the Hewitt family bred pacer King Rancio. He raced successfully for the Hewitt family during the late 70’s after which he went on to be a very successful sire for the Hewitt family when residing at Lost River via Crookwell.
The afternoon of racing kicks off at 2.24pm and gates will open at noon; patrons are reminded that quality food, cold drinks and the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millsom Function Centre are available for their use.
Form Analysis and tips
Race 1: HOLM THREE had the speed to lead and be very hard to run down. The David Hewitt trained mare is looking for her 5th win in succession and whilst this is harder than recent runs she will prove very hard to run down. WHISPERING LASS is well drawn and fitter following 3 runs since a spell. Others with chances include TREUAPER and LUKSAM who have raced strongly in recent starts.
TIPS: 3 Holm Three, 1 Whispering Lass, 2 Luksam and 5 Teuaper.
Race 2: IM EL DIABLO has the draw to repeat his last start Menangle win with a 1:52.7 winner over Major Frank. MAJOR POST and ALTA CAPONE will appreciate the drop in class from recent runs, whilst BADEWITZ will appreciate the ideal 1 barrier in this race
TIPS: 2 Im El Diablo, 6 Alta Capone, 4 Major Post and 1 Badewitz.
Race 3: BOLD LIFE produced a strong effort to win at Menangle last start. In the small field of 6 she should be within striking distance and will take a power of beating. A case could be made for all 5 other runners however IM TONDELAYO and LOMBO MADAM LASHE are the best drawn and look the likely trifecta hopes.
TIPS: 5 Bold Life, 2 Im Tondelayo, 1 Lombo Madam Lashe and 6 Ohyouluckything.
Race 4: TOMBSTONE EDEN is a former Victorian having her second start for Darren Hancock. Not far away when beaten in fast time last start and looks a strong chance in this field; will appreciate the drop in class. BRICK TOP and FEEL THE NEED, whilst up in class, are in very good form and well-drawn. LAGOON STRIDE is in career best form and last start scored his 3rd win on the trot at the new Bathurst track.
TIPS: 8 Tombstone Eden, 1 Brick Top, 5 Lagoon Stride and 2 Feel The Need
Race 5: HERES ROMMEL has early pace and may be tempted to lead given the lack of known leaders on the front line. Heres Rommel has raced consistently since his return from Queensland mid-year and looks a strong chance at good odds. NO AH SAINT is drawn on the second line but is racing strongly, as is HEZA PRESIDENTE. FOREVER TEXAS and ECLIPSER have the ability to place in this strong and even field
TIPS: 7 Heres Rommel, 9 No Ah Saint, 10 Heza Presidente and 5 Forever Texas.
Race 6: BETTOR BET BLACK is a free running type who will strip much fitter following his 3 runs back from a spell. Was responsible for Chariot King’s track record run at this track in March and whilst drawn wide can lead this field. GLOBAL VIEW is well drawn and is racing consistently as are BALLOCHBUIE and LETTUCEFIB
TIPS: 8 Bettor Bet Black, 2 Global View, 4 Ballochbuie and 3 Lettucefib.
Race 7: FREYBERG will be improved by one run back from a spell. Last preparation stepped up strongly to the fast grade and from the front row draw will be very hard to toss. Top class mare VANSUMIC is well drawn to be prominent throughout whilst comeback pacers FRANCO JAMAR and BONAVISTA BAY will look to improve from their efforts in this race. Others with strong chances include IM BLUE DOUBLE DEE and CHARIOT KING.
TIPS: 4 Freyberg, 2 Vansumic, 3 Im Blue Double Dee and 6 Chariot King.
