The fire is believed to have started in a front bedroom and by the time the brigades arrived the room was well alight and spreading to the roof cavity.
Only one of the two fire Goulburn Fire and Rescue Station trucks was available, however the Mulwaree Support Rural Fire Brigade was notified to back up the retained firefighters. They responded quickly with two heavy tankers and crew along with a light unit.
Police and ambulance paramedics also attended the fire and an area between Combermere and Mundy St was cordoned off.
Energy company emergency crews disconnected the power and gas.
A NSW Fire and Rescue truck from Crookwell arrived to assist just before midnight. The front bedroom was destroyed and the rest of the house suffered heat and smoke damage.
At least one firefighter required ambulance paramedic attention and the occupants have been accounted for.
