Marilyn Manfred of the local RSPCA is trying to get the word out.
“The Goulburn Branch RSPCA NSW is continuing its $75 desexing voucher program with special emphasis throughout the current kitten season,” Ms Manfred said.
“It will continue for both cats and dogs until the end of the year at which time the Branch members will review participation and progress.”
Ms Manfred said thousands of kittens are born in Spring each year.
Statistics show that one male and one female cat, and their subsequent offspring, can produce up to 20,000 kittens in two years.
Figures from the Humane Society in the United States suggests that a single pair of cats and their kittens has the potential to produce up to 420,000 cats in just seven years.
That’s a lot of cats.
“Goulburn has a large stray and unwanted cat problem,” Ms Manfred continued.
“This is your opportunity to help reduce it by having your cat desexed, with the assistance of a $75 voucher which can be used at any of the vet clinics in Goulburn, Crookwell, Yass, Marulan and the Ironmines Vet Clinic in Mittagong.”
