It’s with this in mind he brings the third leg of his Lone Wolf tour to The Attic next Friday.
“I’ve made a conscious decision to cover everything from all the way back to the first EP through to the most recent record,” Pyke told the Post ahead of the show.
“I’m trying to cover a lot because I know I love to see bands when they play new stuff, but I also always want to hear the songs that I know and love and have had great experiences with.
“I think most punters are like that and I think it’s a bit insulting if you only play songs you want to play as opposed to the songs you know they want to hear.”
The tour has been a yearlong pilgrimage for Pyke, selling out capital city theatres in February and March. By demand, he followed with another 12 towns and regional centres mid-way through the year.
Now, fresh from a whirlwind UK tour, he starts the tour cycle all over again, admitting that each time around is a little easier than the time before.
Still, after ten years on the road, you have to learn to reinvent the wheel a little.
“I’m performing solo with a loop pedal and other bits and bobs to round it out. It’s essentially me, solo, reinterpreting my own songs.
“It’s kind of like every night is a point of reflection in a way because I’m playing these songs that sometimes I wrote ten years ago and that’s a long time.
“I feel it really breathes new life into them and kind of helps me to stay connected… “It makes things stay closer to your heart than maybe they would have… It’s an interesting way to stay in touch with your life.”
This string of shows will be the last chance to see Pyke’s specially curated Lone Wolf solo set, before he settles down for the summer.
He hopes to start recording a follow-up album to The Beginning And The End Of Everything (2012) in March before continuing his collaboration with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in April.
Pyke will perform at the Attic on Friday November 28 with special guest Jordan Leser, from 8pm. Tickets are around $29 and can be bought from Oztix. The event is strictly 18+ only.
