Goulburn Community Radio breakfast host, Jeff Dunn, will on Saturday become the first broadcaster at the not-for-profit station to go air nationwide.
Listeners from all parts of the continent will be able to catch the breakfast program courtesy of the station’s new Tieline machine – purchased thanks to a grant from the Community Broadcast Association.
The Tieline machine will feed select Goulburn Community Radio programs to Sydney transmitters, where they’ll in-turn broadcast nationally.
Mr Dunn admits it’s both an honour and opportunity for the station.
“It’s a big grant to get, we were lucky enough to pick that up,” he said.
“It’s pretty hard to find $13,000 lying around.”
The weekly national broadcast will go some way to advertising Goulburn to the country – not just devoted local listeners.
The station’s technicians hope to complement the national broadcast by enabling live streaming online. Streaming will become available next year.
Combined, the improvements will bring 103.3 FM in line with its commercial competitors and leave the station equipped for the 21st century.
“This is our biggest,” Mr Dunn says of the Tieline machine.
“In the future, we’ll be working on streaming too. It’s a big thing for Goulburn. We’ll be able to promote the town as well as hopefully pull in some sponsors.
“The future looks pretty rosy. It’s something people in Goulburn should appreciate, being given a mention nationally.
For us, this is the start of a better future.”
The presenter is no stranger to national radio.
Mr Dunn worked on the Country Broadcast Association program Good Morning Country between 2000 and 2008.
Prior, he hosted programs for Hawkesbury Radio, Air FM Penrith and 2RDJ Burwood.
He joined Goulburn Community Radio in January of 2009.
The station’s inaugural national broadcast can be heard on 103.3 FM from 6am on Saturday.
It will be simulcast on alternative frequencies around the nation through the Community Broadcast Association of Australia.
