Between 11th November 2014 and 21st November 2014 a number of overseas visitors have become victims to a scam on Gumtree, where an advertisement for work on a farm in Goulburn was placed. A number of people have responded to the advertisement, only to be told to deposit a sum of money into an account for rental accommodation prior to commencing work. Upon the jobseeker attending a Goulburn address they realise the address does not exist and it is a scam.
Police wish to remind the community to be alert to scams, and any advertisement that requests money to be forwarded to a bank account prior to obtaining goods or services promised. Police are currently investigating the matters.

Between 6.45pm and 10pm on Monday the 17th November 2014, a number of homes on Village Road, Goulburn were subjects of break, enter and steals. It appears the offenders have attempted to gain entry in one residence via the rear kitchen window with no success; however they have successfully gained entry at a neighbouring residence through the rear kitchen window. Cash was stolen from the main bedroom from this residence. Local residents in the vicinity are asked to be vigilant and contact Police in the first instance if any suspicious persons or behaviour are noted.

About 7.30pm on Sunday 16th November 2014 a resident on Chisholm Street, Goulburn noticed smoke and a small glow coming from their vehicle parked in the front driveway. They soon realised the vehicle was on fire, and contacted fire brigade and police. Fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire coming from the engine area. After examination of the vehicle it appears a mechanical fault originating in the battery has caused the fire.

About 9pm on Tuesday 11th November 2014 police located on platform one of Goulburn Railway Station an intoxicated male drinking from an open bottle of Jim Beam. The male also did not have a valid rail ticket. The male was issued infringements for the related rail offences. Police would like to remind the public that it is an offence to have in your possession any open containers of alcohol whilst on the rail network. This includes at stations as well as travelling on trains. Heavy fines apply - up to $400 for alcohol related infringements.

About 1am on Sunday 16th November 2014 police were patrolling along Auburn Street, Goulburn when three young males were stopped by police for their loud and disorderly behaviour. Police attempted to speak with one of the males when another has continually sworn loudly at police and become argumentative, hindering police’s actions. After several warnings he was informed he would be fined for his offensive language. The male continued to swear and interfere with police actions, causing police to issue a move on direction. He failed to comply and again was warned several times to move on until he was arrested. The other males then walked off swearing loudly at police with a number of onlookers witnessing the incident. After police gave several more warnings to the males, they continued in their offensive behaviour and were placed under arrest. One male ran from police, and was pursued by police on foot being located behind the Empire Hotel. All males were conveyed to Goulburn Police Station and charged for the relevant offences.
The Goulburn community are reminded that Police are targeting alcohol related crime and associated antisocial behaviour. Police will continue to target persons and licensed premises taking a zero tolerance to alcohol fuelled criminal and antisocial behaviour.
Crookwell / Taralga
Steal from motor vehicles 16th – 21st November 2014
Since the 16th of November 2014 the township of Crookwell has been subjected to ten steal from motor vehicles occurring in the early hours of the morning while residents have their vehicles parked overnight at home. Residences that have been targeted are Short Street, Brooklands Street, Roslyn Street, Carrington Street, Warne Street, and Clements Street. Police have identified that the majority of vehicles have been parked either in the front driveway or on road at the front of the residence and left unlocked. All vehicles have been left with glove box and console compartments open, interior lights on, and some doors still open upon being discovered by the owners. It appears the thieves are committing the offences overnight, and may be looking for cash.
Bowral

About 230am on Sunday 23rd November 2014 a b-double truck was travelling north along the Hume Highway, Berrima when the driver heard a loud bang and saw smoke coming from the rear of his vehicle. The driver pulled the vehicle over at a wide section of the medium strip and saw that the rear near side tyres were missing believed to be from a mechanical fault. The driver has then noticed a small grass fire burning on the middle median strip in the vicinity where he heard the bang. The driver contacted emergency services, with local Rural Fire Services and police attending. Lane two northbound was closed for about half a kilometre to assist fire crews and lane two southbound. RFS crews spent considerable time extinguishing the fire to ensure no flare ups. Any smoke hazards were minimal. At 4:05hrs both lanes were open and the highway was clear for north and south bound traffic.

About 1.50am on Sunday 23rd November 2014 police were called to the Bowral Hotel, Bowral in regards to a male refusing to leave the premises. Just prior security staff of the hotel asked the male to leave due to his level of intoxication. The male left the hotel however went around to the beer garden and began speaking to his friends through the fence. Security have again spoken to the male and informed him he had to leave the area. The male became aggressive and thrown an empty beer can at the security. The male then walked around to the side door and remained there arguing with security. At this point police have arrived and located the male still standing at the side entrance door arguing with security. Police issued the male with an infringement for failure to leave the licensed premises and directed the male to leave.

On Friday 23rd November 2014 police attended the Bong Bong Picnic Races at Bowral to provide a police presence and crowd control. Police are happy to report the crowd was well behaved, with only a few intoxicated people being detected and moved on without incident.

About 10.30am on Sunday the 16th November 2014 a Grey Mazda was parked at Iron Mines Oval, Old Hume Highway, Mittagong. About 11.55am the owner returned to his vehicle to find the rear quarter window had been smashed by a rock, and a mobile phone and cash was stolen. Police would like to remind the community not to leave valuables in the car. If anyone may have seen suspicious activity at the time of the incident and can provide information on the stealing please contact Bowral police.

About 7.40am on Sunday 16th November a male driver was travelling in a southerly direction on Wilson Drive, Balmoral Village when he has lost control of his vehicle about 10 metres after negotiating a bend, on a wet road. The driver has attempted to correct the vehicle however the vehicle has continued to drift across grass and gravel striking a steel cable that acts as a stay for a timber power pole. The vehicle has slid up the cable until it snapped, and the vehicle has collided with the power pole. The impact has caused the passenger side of the vehicle to crumble, trapping the driver, as well as dislodging a live wire that landed in a nearby tree causing it to smoke. A nearby resident heard the collision and contacted police and fire brigade services. A local Rural Fire Service attended and rendered the live wires and area safe before emergency services worked at releasing the driver, who was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital for medical treatment. Police are continuing to investigate the matter.

About 10.50pm on Thursday 20th November 2014 police were called to Orion Street, Yass regarding some males arguing out the front of a residence. Upon police arrival police located an intoxicated male defecating on the front lawn of residence. Police have attempted to arrest the male and place him in the caged truck when the male has resisted police and pushed them. Police have had to wrestle the male to the ground and place him into custody. The male was conveyed from the scene to Yass Police Station and charged for a number of related offences, including assault on both police officers.

About 4pm on Sunday 16th November 2014 a red Honda Jazz sedan was travelling south on the Hume Hwy, Bowning. About 200 metres north of Bowning Creek the vehicle has left the roadway, entered the median strip and dropped into Bowning Creek, rolling once before coming to rest in the creek. The male driver was trapped, and passersby have stopped to render aid, and contacted emergency services. During the rescue operation lane two of the Hume Highway was closed for about 45 minutes, whilst emergency services released the driver from the vehicle, who was airlifted to Canberra Hospital. Police spoke with a number of witnesses at the scene, and continue their investigation into the cause of the collision.

About 1pm on Tuesday 11th November 2014 a Black Ford Sedan was observed by police to be parked across one and half parking bays at the Irvine’s Court car park, Yass. A male was seen sitting in the driver’s seat of the car. The vehicle left the car park and drove north along Laidlaw Street. Police followed the vehicle, concerned about the manner of driving. Police observed the vehicle to swerve within its own lane, and failed to give way at a sign posted intersection. Police have activated their warning devices to stop the vehicle, which has driven across another intersection and stopped on the grass outside a residence on Hope Street. The driver was submitted to a road side breath test with a negative result. Due to the driver’s appearance, behaviour and manner of driving, police believed the driver was under the influence of drugs, consequently the driver was arrested and conveyed to Yass Hospital for the purposes of providing a blood and urine test. Police are awaiting test results before formal action will be taken against the driver.
