The entertainers are poised. Santa is on his way. The weather should be perfect.
And organiser Peter Mylonas is “excited”.
“This is probably the most excited I have been in the lead up to the Carols,” he said.
“Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing this for 20 odd years, or maybe it’s because we’ve got the right acts ... but this year, I can really feel the excitement building.”
The four non-stop hours of performances, carols, speeches and dancing start at about 6pm.
X-Factor favourites Dami Im and Taylor Henderson head the impressive line up of entertainers.
Also on stage will be ARIA-award winning acapella group The Idea Of North and The Voice Kids finalist, Goulburn’s own Molly Sneddon.
Chris King returns to compere the evening which last year attracted about 8000 people.
An even bigger crowd tonight is tipped, with giant screens and even a security presence to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time. But there wouldn’t be a Carols without the support of the community.
Dozens of Goulburn businesses and individuals contribute in-kind to the event each year.
One of them is Matt Chilko, of Goulburn Party Hire, who is pictured with Mr Mylonas in Belmore Park on Friday.
“The most wonderful thing about it is that it brings the community together in an uplifting way,” My Mylonas said.
Carols of Hope a team effort
IT takes a lot of money to stage Goulburn’s Carols of Hope each year and tonight’s concert is no exception.
Between artist hire, accommodation, staging, sound systems, the bill climbs into the thousands.
Each year businesses and individuals in our community come forward to support what has become an annually anticipated event that has grown in popularity. Visitors have been known to make the journey from Canberra, Sydney, Wollongong and further afield.
These people look forward to it as much as anyone in the audience.
“It’s the enjoyment you see on the children’s faces, and the adults too that make it so special,” explains sausage supplier Bill Murray.
The major sponsor this year is Madison’s Restaurant at the Heritage Motel.
Other sponsors include Rawson Homes, Matt Howe of Richard James Pty Ltd, The Goulburn Radio Cabs Co- Op, Rohan Geale of Wollondilly Retirement Village, Peter Kontos of The Paragon Café, The Park Café and Pizza Kitchen, Paul O’Rourke, Scott Gann at Goulburn Bi Rite & Carpet Court, Michael Gerakios of the Greek Orthodox Church, Paul Stamatellis of Lesvos Developments, Chris at Classique Chemdry, Fedral Olive Grove in Collector, Goulburn Mulwaree Council and staff, Tony Roberts, Phillip Champion and team, Alfie Walker, The Towrang Rural Fire Brigade, Allan Burman, NSW Police Hume Local Area Command, St John’s Ambulance, Matt Chilko, Patricia Graham of LJ Hooker Goulburn, Australian Rainforest Honey, David Greig, Max Pearce and Kennard’s Hire, The Cathedral Bell Ringers and 2GN Radio Goulburn, Goulburn Post and many more. Tonight’s festivities commence from 6pm.
