It’s the same application put forward in January, 2014 with the only difference being the location, proponent Rohan Geale, of Ranger Geale Holdings Pty Ltd, said.
Pending modification approval, the AMF-style facility will make its home the former Ranger Geale & Tutt Bryant building (102 Hume St).
To accommodate the space, Tutt Byrant will relocate.
“Tutt Bryant will relocate to new purpose built building that we have just completed on the corner of Robinson St and Finlay Rd by the end of February, 2015,” Mr Geale, who works with Wollondilly Constructions, explained.
While the indoor bowling alley will take up half of the existing building, the remaining units will stay a bulky goods warehouse space.
Mr Geale said the decision to change the location was based purely on feasibility.
The new location will mean only minor alterations will be needed. The original pitch would have required the construction of a whole new building.
“It comes down to the feasibility. One was for a new development and the other one was going into an existing development,” Mr Geale explained.
“The bowling alley will occupy two of the units on the Black Sheep Tavern side, leaving six units for bulky retail type business.”
He said the proposal was part of a “larger development”, with the area tentatively called the “Hume Lifestyle Precinct”.
The indoor 10-pin bowling business will be based on the national AMF model and specifications.
It will include a 12-lane alley and concourse, hire office, small café, computer games open floor area, staff area and amenities.
The facility is pitched to open seven days a week with the exception of some public holidays. Opening hours are still being finalised with consideration of weekends and after school hours, depending on demand.
Mr Geale said feedback had been “very positive” throughout 2014 and he hoped to get a start on construction this year.
“We are looking to attract new and existing business to the precinct. We hope to complete the development by the end of 2015.”
The amended DA is on public exhibition at Council Chambers in Bourke St or online. Closing date for submissions is January 22.
