The recommendations, approved by the Council’s December 16 Meeting, will free up an additional 75 car-parking spaces in the CBD as well as amending some parking time restrictions.

Goulburn Mulwaree General Manager Warwick Bennett said Council is trying to provide a CBD that offers convenient parking for business and residential purposes alike. 

“The changes will provide an additional 75 spaces and this should go a long way towards meeting the city’s parking needs for some time into the future,” Mr Bennett said.

“The extra parking is mainly achieved by implementing angle parking in lieu of parallel parking where it is safe and convenient.  Additionally, some spaces have been gained by converting redundant areas, such as unused bus zones, to parking spaces. 

“The timed-parking restrictions have also been reviewed and changes will be made to better reflect the actual usage. 

“For example, where usage was observed to be low, the timed restrictions will be removed.  This will provide more unrestricted parking for those visitors to the CBD requiring an extended period, or to nearby residents.  On the other hand, where a block length is predominately a business area, timed restrictions will be implemented to allow a suitable turn-over of the available parking”.

The new parking changes are programmed to commence on January 27, 2015.

The changes include:

Bourke Street (East Side)

·       Clinton – Verner: Delete bus zone and change the whole block length to unrestricted

·       Verner – Montague: Change the whole block length to 2hr restricted

Bourke Street (West Side)

·       Clinton – Verner: Change to angle parking from units to Verner

·       Change whole block to unrestricted parking.

·       Verner - Church South - Church North: Change to angle parking, unrestricted.

·       In front of Goulburn Regional Conservatorium: 30mins, 3pm – 6pm, schooldays, unrestricted at other times.

Verner Street (North Side)

·       Near Bourke Street: Change to 2 hour parking to match rest of block.

Cartwright Place

·       The new additional 16 spaces be 2 hour parking.

Clifford Street (South-east corner of Auburn St)

·       Change the 1 hour parking to 2 hour parking to match rest of block.

Bradley Street (North Side)

·       Auburn – Sloane:  Change to unrestricted

Sloane Street - West Side

·       Clinton – Verner:  Change to unrestricted

·       Verner – Montague: Change to unrestricted. 

·       Section from Verner Street to north side of Carlton Motel: change to angle                                  parking

Sloane Street - East Side

·       Station – Startrack entrance: Add 2 more angle spaces to northern end

·       Craig – Bradley: Change parallel parking section to angle parking (deferred                                 pending nearby development).
