More than 80 people crammed into the Tatts Hotel meeting room and bar last Monday for the monthly event.
Organised by Goulburn Labor, the forum was modelled from the ABC’s Q&A program, with purpose of promoting open political discussion across the spectrum.
A panel of nine, including Country Labor Candidate Ursula Stephens, Greens Candidate Iain Fyfe, Outdoor Recreation Party Candidate Wal Ashton and Christian Democrats Candidate Adrian van Der Byl, were presented with open questions from the floor.
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle, Goulburn Nationals representative Tony Morrison, The Goulburn Group’s Urs Walterlin, Wind Alliance member Charlie Prell and SolarShare ACT rep Lawrence McIntosh joined the political candidates on the panel to discuss sustainable power.
“It was an amazing night, our biggest so far.” Mr Shepherd said.
“Locally there is much agreement on the need for distributed generated sustainable power connected by a well-kept publicly owned system of poles and wires.
“We also need to take into account farmers, land owners, local communities concerns and redress past issues such as unexpected drops in property prices, environmental concerns, etc.
“We need to listen and understand all sides of the argument whilst being less caught up in who sits within which camp. We owe it to this and future generations to power the future right whilst creating local jobs.”
The organisers would like to thank everyone for turning up and making such grass roots discussions a success.
Politics in the Pub is held from 6:30pm every third Monday of the month at the Tattersalls Hotel. For enquires Goulburn Labor can be found on Facebook where messages will be answered.
