Trained by Amy Day, Magic Bliss is the winner of over $200,000 and his many wins include the Breeders Challenge 3yo Regional Final at Newcastle, heat of the Australia Pacing Gold and the $25,000 Semi Final of the Australian Breeders Crown.

Plagued by niggling injuries, Magic Bliss resumed this preparation with two fine wins at Bathurst and last Saturday was a fast finishing second at Menangle.

“He went really well last start at Menangle, hopefully he can race consistently from now on” said Amy Day of the 6yo Blissfull Hall gelding. The performance was made all the better as Magic Bliss made up many metres when the winner posted a brilliant 54.6 final half.

Magic Bliss is being aimed at the $12,000 Goulburn Mulwaree Council sponsored Goulburm Mulwaree City Sprint over the 1710 metre journey. The big Australia Day program will also feature the Group 3 $30,000 Frank & Edna Day Goulburn Cup and the $18,000 Goulburn Soldiers Club Goulburn Rose. All other races on the day will carry prize money of $8,000.

With the help of generous sponsors; Goulburn Soldiers Club, Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Divalls Earthmoving & Bulk Haulage, Glenferrie Farm, ARW Multigroup and Goulburn First National, the club has programmed a race meeting totaling $100,000 in prize money.

In a change from previous years, the Goulburn Club have teamed up with the business management students of Goulburn High School and have organised a day which should provide harness fans with outstanding racing and entertainment.

Entry is only $10, with pensioners, members and children over 15 asked to pay $5. All the gate takings will be donated to Goulburn High School to help finance the many projects and equipment students require on a day by day basis. “We’re extremely pleased to help the school; all of the Goulburn Club’s younger participants went to school there so it’s fitting that we can help” said club secretary Mark Croatto.

Students and teaching staff have worked closely with the club since last November to prepare the Australia Day fixture. The students were specifically responsible for organising the promotion, entertainment and gate takings.

“Their ideas and use of social media has been outstanding, and what they are doing links perfectly with the learning outcomes students of business studies have to achieve” said Croatto. “It’s a wonderful example of applying theory to practice” added Croatto.

Promoted as a family day, the afternoon of racing will also feature mini trotting races, live music by current and former students of Goulburn High School, and ‘Fashion on the Field’ with prizes totally $1,500 courtesy of eMLLie ladies fashion of Goulburn. Categories include ‘Best overall young lady’, ‘Best overall woman’, ‘Best overall man’, ‘Best millinery’ and ‘Best couple’.

Children will be kept busy on the day with a jumping castle, face painting, and an alpaca petting zoo.

Other features include the opportunity to win a share of $1,000 cash simply for coming through the gate and $100 cash in the ‘Goulburn Carnival of Cups’ Facebook selfie picture upload.

Purchase of a race book entitles the buyer entry into draws providing the opportunity to win a European River Cruise as part of the upcoming Inter Dominion Carnival, a Toyota Yaris at the annual Harness Racing NSW awards night in October, and a $50 cash prize for the race book draw.

With so much on offer, and the promise of outstanding harness racing, all should make their way to the Goulburn Paceway on Braidwood Road. Patrons are reminded that gates for Monday’s program will open at 12.00 noon and that they can now enjoy the quality food of the new Tucker Box menu.
