“It’s been a long process but with the help of Goulburn High School students I’m sure it will be a wonderful afternoon of entertainment and racing action,” Club Secretary Mark Croatto said.
Business management students have been busy organising the entertainment and promotion of today’s race meeting.
Students will man the gates into the course and all proceeds will be donated to the school for the students’ benefit.
Aside from the racing, people attending this afternoon can enjoy mini trotting, musical performances and fashions on the field.
There will be lots for children to do so the club and students encourage all to come out and enjoy the day.
From the racing perspective the club’s feature race of the year, the $30,000 Frank and Edna Day Goulburn Cup (2240m) will be decided.
Scheduled as race 7 at 5.38pm, the Cup has drawn a small but interesting field of pacers.
Easy On The Eye from the Shane Tritton stable looks the standout runner.
Having raced against the very best since arriving from New Zealand last year, Easy On The Eye (a $1.80 chance) has the speed to take up the running and could provide the Tritton camp with their first Goulburn Cup.
The afternoon also features the Goulburn Soldiers Club Goulburn Rose (2240m) and local trainer Brad Hewitt has Im Jay Tee engaged, a $7.50 chance in early betting. Owned by a group of young local men, Im Jay Tee had to chase home the rising star All Eyes On Us at his Carnival stars line uplast start.
Finishing only 7.4 metres behind, Im Jay Tee will find this afternoon’s event ideal and could provide the Hewitt camp with their first Goulburn Rose success.
Racing commences at 1.40pm with gates open at noon.
“We remind those coming out this afternoon that by simply paying the entry fee gives them the opportunity to win a share of $1,000 cash, while an easy $100 cash can be won in the ‘Goulburn Carnival of Cups’ Facebook selfie picture upload,” Croatto said.
“Purchase of a race book also entitles the buyer entry into draws providing the opportunity to win a European River Cruise as part of the upcoming Inter Dominion Carnival, a Toyota Yaris at the annual Harness Racing NSW awards night in October, and a $50 cash prize for the race book draw.
“With so much on offer, and the promise of outstanding harness racing, all should make their way to the Goulburn Paceway on Braidwood Road to enjoy the quality food of the new Tucker Box menu and a wide range of cold alcoholic and soft drinks and the wonderful facilities of the Grace Millsom Function Centre.”
Analysis and tips
Race 1: 2YO race with 6 runners; Salty Robyn and Trijet from the Shane Tritton stable have trialed very impressively winning all 5 of their collective starts.
Salty Robyn last trialed at Menangle on the 9 Janaury when recording a 1:55.9 mile and from barrier 1 appeals as the better of the two. Crookwell trainer Daniel Rowell has Roarn and last week’s winner Boobalaga Road engaged. Roarn has trialed once finishing 2nd at Goulburn (Boobalaga Road being 4th) and should be respected. Boobalaga Road will naturally be improved by last week’s win whilst Chucky Balboa and Regal Ashes have placed in their only official race starts. This is a tricky race with all starters having credentials on their race and trial form.
TIPS: 1 Salty Robyn, 5 Roarn, 6 Boobalaga Road, 4 Chucky Balboa
Race 2: 3YO race with 7 runners; Miss Riviera Belle is a former New Zealander who has recorded 5 place positions from 6 starts. Has trialed at Newcastle winning by 80 metres in 1:55.5 and looks the standout runner here.
Provincial looked all over the winner last start at Goulburn but compounded quickly in the straight. From the 1 barrier he looks like getting a nice run and should be hard to beat.
Weownavirgin was a good second on debut at Goulburn last week and will have improved with the experience.
Others with a chance include Licinia and Thanku Thanku who have good form since resuming from their spells.
TIPS: 2 Salty Robyn, 1 Provincial, 3 Weownavirgin, 6 Licinia
Race 3: C0 race with 11 runners; Bon Accord Gal has a very good record and when on song can be very hard to beat.
Does break under pressure and while one of the best performed in this race is a risk. Ten In Command led throughout at Canberra last start and will be better for the run. Abbey Cullen started an odds-on favourite when beaten into 4th at Temora. Did trial strongly leading into that run and is likely to be improved for this. Harlequin Bromac is another to start at odds-on last start however galloped in the run losing all chances.
Won 3 of 6 starts last season so has ability. Lettucemacru has been placed in both starts this preparation and while drawn wide in barrier 8 is one of the leading hopes
TIPS: 2 Ten In Command, 3 Bon Accord Gal, 8 Lettucemacru, 4 Harlequin Bromac
Race 4: C2 race with 8 runners; Audrey Maree ran on strongly last start behind Beaudine Bill in a stronger race than this. Drawn a little wide but has the ability to overcome the disadvantage.
Mysterious River had good form until checked at Bathurst when ninth. Was a winner at Menangle in 1:55.8 and will be hard to beat in this. Toolijooa Dawn is race fit and wasn’t beaten far last start at Menangle when 7th behind Tact Hayleys Delight. Burning Cash is resuming but has ability. Theirishinme has place 3 from her last 6 starts and from the 3 barrier has the opportunity to find a nice spot in the run.
TIPS: 6 Audrey Maree, 5 Myssterious River, 8 Burning Cash, 7 Toolijooa Dawn
Race 5: C1 race with 11 runners; Ireby Betty won her first two starts at Bathurst since arriving from New Zealand. Hasn’t been far away in two subsequent starts and from barrier 2 has the chance to take up the running.
Delight Bluejean was a first up winner at Newcastle in 1:55.6 and then galloped at Tamworth. Drawn the second row but likely to be moving forward early in the race. Denises Legacy has been very consistent and from the 1 barrier is likely to get the run of the race.
Mysterious River is winless this preparation but is racing consistently in harder races than this. Outlaw Fella has a good record and from the 3 barrier has the opportunity to be in the finish. Ponderena and Modern Dancer are both in good form but not drawn well.
TIPS: 11 Delight Bluejean, 2 Ireby Betty, 4 Mysterious River, 9 Modern Dancer
Race 6: C2 to C4 race with 11 runners; Im Jay Tee for Brad Hewitt won first up at Menangle and has not missed a place in three starts since. Finished 2nd behind the highly talented All Eyes On Us last time and looks very hard to beat in this quality race. Epaulette is resuming but raced the best of his age group last season. In the Belinda McCarthy stable now and has been prepped by a solid trial second at Menangle. Bister Bling, also from the McCarthy stable has raced strongly winning 2 from 3 since resuming.
Likely to make a mid-race move and is one of the main chances. Midnight Prowler has won his last two at Bathurst and while this is a step up in grade he is drawn well in behind the 1 gate.
Lettuceriprita has drawn the 9 and is risk of being 3 or 4 the pegs if the leader doesn’t get away. His form is very solid and providing he doesn’t get too far back is a strong contender.
TIPS: 10 Im Jay Tee, 11 Mister Bling, 3 Epaulette, 1 Midnight Prowler
Race 7: C5 and better race with 7 runners; Easy On The Eye from the Tritton stable has raced the very best since arriving from New Zealand including a long beaten 7th in the Miracle Mile. Resumed with an excellent third at Menangle behind Avonova, and in the small field looks the hardest to beat. Stunin Banner stepped up in distance at Menangle last week and was very impressive when beating Magic Bliss. Has drawn behind gate 2 and will be hard to beat.
Ellmer Hanover for Brad Hewitt comes out of the 1 gate and is a strong chance of finishing in the top 3 if he can hold the back of the likely leader Easy On The Eye. Monifieth had his first Australian start in this race at last year’s Goulburn Carnival of Cups meeting. Has progressed to the open class and recently finished second to For A Reason at Bathurst in the Shirley Turnbull Memorial. Drawn behind the 3 gate he will be finishing strongly. Heza Thrill was a strong winner of the Oberon Cup at Bathurst last week which followed a good 4th to For A Reason in the Turnbull Memorial race. He is quite capable of finishing in the top 3 again with a good run.
TIPS: 5 Easy On The Eye, 1 Ellmer Hanover, 3 Monifieth, 2 Stunnin Banner
Race 8: C3 to C5 race with 8 runners; Mashall Dale performed strongly last week at this track when 3rd behind Beaudiene Bill. Has drawn behind gate 2 and is quite capable of finding the front. Silver Back from the Tritton stable resumed with a good win at Bathurst and followed that with a 5th at Bathurst when he was checked at the start. Can lead if they want to and looks a strong chance. Eclipser for David Hewitt lost all chance last week when he was checked and galloped at the 600 metre mark. Is very capable when right and was looking like getting back to top form when second at Canberra 2 starts ago. Drawn wide in 8 but likely to settle in the second half of the field.
Moonlight Gambler has won a couple in his last 5 starts and with a good run would be hard to beat as would be Forgetaboutit. He was a winner at Newcastle finished 7th at Menangle when inconvenienced in the run.
TIPS: 2 Marshall Dale, 6 Silver Back, 3 Moonlight Gambler, 4 Forgetaboutit
